So, you probably didn't think you would hear anything from me this month, but surprise — I have a completely new game, and it's almost finished!
Every year, Ren'Py (the game engine I use) hosts a fun marathon called "NaNoRenO" in March. If you've heard of NaNoWriMo, it will make sense, but basically, you make a visual novel in a month.
A little over a week into March, on the 12th, I decided to jump in, and over the past 9 days I've been working on and off on it. Since one of my goals this year is to release more short projects, this seemed like a great opportunity to push myself to do that within very little time.
The reason I waited 9 days to announce this is because I was a little worried about being able to finish it. However, the writing is 90% done now, which is the thing I struggle most with getting myself to do, so I think it's extremely likely that I'll finish it in time.
But what is "it", exactly?
Prison of Lies is about four prisoners on death row who were cleared of all charges, but due to an executions quota, one of them needs to die. They are all put in a room and asked to decide over the course of an hour who among them will be the one to die.
Adding to the complexity is a lie detector, fitted to each of them — they will all know when any of them is lying.
I have based a little mini-game around that concept, which pops up from time to time. It's a concise little project... sort of a mishmash of a bunch of things I like, with a lot of twists. I've always wanted to do something with the "prison aesthetic" — orange with black and white stripes, and this seemed like a good opportunity!
